While there are five stages when it comes to sleeping, the stages 1, 2, 3 , and 4 are logged known as the State non–rapid eye movement or NREM and the fifth stage of sleep is the stage known as rapid eye movement sleep.
Sleep Stage 1:

Stage 2 of Sleep:
This is when rapid brain waves slow down and there may also be short bursts of eye movement during stage two as well. Earplug guide would be helpful.
Stage 3 and 4 of Sleep:
This is when brain waves called delta waves achieve a slower pace and become intertwined with smaller and faster waves of the brain.During these two stages of sleep the brain waves are extremely slow. Stage 5 or REM stage is when breathing becomes faster and more irregular and this is the time when most dreams happen. Always following a period of NREM sleep, the REM stage takes place throughout the sleep period and makes up approximately a quarter of the total sleep period and the first REM occurs at the end of Stage 1 and lasts about 10 minutes and the final REM stage lasts around 60 minutes. NREM and REM have differences.Both the NREM and REM sleep take place throughout the time you are asleep and usually during the time that you are sleeping during the first one third of the night will consist of NREM sleep, while the sleep you pleased or enjoyed the most during the last one third of the night is the REM sleep.
